The entry of cannabis products into the luxury market is a sure sign of marijuana’s new, more polished reputation. From dreadlocked hippies and stoner bros, it has evolved into the wellness product du-jour, garnering a new, elite fan base and a presence at luxury department stores.
Barney’s New York—the venerable, nearly 100-year old department store, recently opened a cannabis shop in its opulent Beverly Hills location. The new shop, called The High End, describes itself as a “luxury cannabis and wellness concept shop.” It has a glossy, modern aesthetic, with marble walls, brass fixtures and the occasional flourish of pale green—perfect for that highly curated Instagram post.
The shop features lavish paraphernalia such as Devambez rolling papers made from organically grown French hemp, leather ashtrays from the Italian brand Giobagnara, pipes from lauded glass blower Caleb Siemmon, and stash boxes from jewelry designer Martine Ali. It’s as expensive as you’d expect—the leather ashtray comes in at just under $1,000.
Barney’s New York isn’t the only retailer cashing in on upmarket cannabis culture. You can find CBD-infused beauty products at Neiman Marcus, The Body Shop, and Sephora, and some Wall Street analysts have started treating cannabis-based beauty as a standalone category. The swag bag at this year’s Oscar’s ceremony included an array of cannabis-related items, including a VIP membership to MOTA, LA’s first marijuana-friendly social club. Moreover, there are legions of new lines that cater to every aspect of the lifestyle. From gold plated-vapes and jewelry to luxury confections – there are scores of splurge-worthy finds for modern marijuana connoisseur.
Here are a few notable indulgences:
“A restorative, extra-strength CBD-infused moisturizing lotion ideal for post-workout recovery, that time of the month, a night out in heels, and a million other skin and body woes—with CBD derived exclusively from organically cultivated hemp, grown in the USA. It is non-psychoactive and contains zero THC.”
Made by hand in British Columbia using vegetable-tanned Italian cowhide leather. It has a slot for a lighter, pre-rolls, standard rolling papers, and two additional storage spaces.
“An organic age-defending blend of argan oil and hemp seed oil for stronger, bouncier, glowier skin.”
Beboe is a California-based luxury cannabis line that some have called the “Hermes of Marijuana.” The company was founded by celebrity tattoo artist Scott Campbell and longtime fashion executive Clement Kwan, and features products like rose gold vape pens, edible pastilles, and other pretty indulgences.
Défoncé Chocolatier specializes in cannabis chocolate bars with modern flavors like White Chocolate Matcha. The bars contain about 90 milligrams of THC, but can be broken up into 5 mg servings for easy microdoses.
