The Item 9 Labs team is always tinkering with recipes and processes to give patients the most we can from the cannabis plant. Our most recent offering, broad spectrum cartridges featuring true cannabis-derived terpenes, are for those seeking maximum effectiveness and full-bodied flavor.
What you start with matters.
Most other cartridges are filled with high-THC distillate flavored with botanically-derived (or organic fruit) terpenes. While enjoyable, patients aren’t receiving all the healing benefits cannabis has to offer, only a copy of the taste. They lack the full entourage effect available via broad spectrum, cannabis-derived terpenes.
Cannabis-derived is considered the pinnacle of terpenes, containing more of the therapeutic compounds a cannabis plant has to offer — so patients get the most healing benefits possible from every use.
Consuming a product that contains multiple cannabinoids and multiple terpenes are going to activate more cannabinoid receptors. This will provide a heavier, more well-rounded experience called the “entourage effect”, which allows our endocannabinoid system to work better in helping our bodies naturally fix what is wrong.
Our bodies are built for cannabis. Responsible for homeostasis, or keeping things in our body ‘just right,” we produce many of the same compounds found in the cannabis plant. The cannabinoids in our bodies, called endocannabinoids, are found in our endocannabinoid system. They are broken down naturally (and quickly) and can’t interact with our cells like the cannabinoids from the plant.
Our body’s endocannabinoid system is complex and sensitive. In addition to the CB1 and CB2 receptors, we have additional ancillary receptors that all work to tell our bodies what needs to be healed.
CB1 and CB2 receptors
Cannabinoid Receptors are another part of the Endocannabinoid system. There are two major cannabinoid receptors; CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are in our brain and nervous system. CB2 receptors are more abundant and are found in the periphery organs and immune system.
The cannabinoids from the plant can bond to our CB1 receptors for a more psychoactive effect, CB2 receptors for a more medicinal effect.
Using THC alone can feel like the effects are stuck above your eyes, that is because THC binds to the CB1 receptors located in the brain. The THC cannot travel further than this because there are no receptors for the molecule to bind to. This is why a well-balanced cannabis strain is integral to experiencing a well-rounded, psychoactive and medicinal feeling.
Knowing this, our extraction team devised a new process that’s able to re-introduce cannabis-derived terpenes after the distillation process. These re-formulated recipes allow you to reap the benefits of both worlds: the distinct taste you know and trust, along with more of the healing power of the cannabis plant. Now available in dispensaries where Item 9 Labs cartridges are sold, we’re proud to offer more of the plant to our patients.
